Brad Dybel has a wide variety of experiences as an engineering consultant.

Volunteering in Professional Engineering Societies

Brad has been active in professional engineering societies, such as the Society of American Military Engineers (SAME) and American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE), for more than 30 years.

SAME

He has held positions on the Board of Directors of the Orange County Post of SAME as Chair of the Scholarship Committee and Chair of the STEM Committee.

Comment from SAME Regional Vice President, Jim Carter:

“Brad was an extremely active and award-winning volunteer with the Orange County Post of SAME, holding positions on the Executive Board as Chair of the Scholarship Committee and Chair of the STEM Committee Brad was an inspirational go-getter and an innovator while serving at the OC Post. In recognition for his efforts, Brad was awarded SAME’s Regional Vice President’s Medal, and later named SAME’s National STEM Champion. His greatest innovation at SAME may have been planning and conducting STEM education outreach events at joint ventures with other organizations, including the American Society of Civil Engineers and the Boy Scouts of America. Some of his most memorable outreach events were held at the Museum of the Whittier Historical Society, which had a year-long display commemorating the history of the Boy Scouts. Brad planned and conducted workshops with the help of volunteers from other professional organizations for Boy Scouts, who were working on merit badges in STEM subjects. Brad also was an active Mentor at the Starbase youth STEM-education program at the Los Alamitos Joint Forces Military Training Base. He spoke to many other youth groups and schools, including Burroughs High School, the Grace Hopper STEM Academy, and the Horace Mann UCLA Community School. Another one of Brad’s notable innovations was recruiting former US military service members who were studying at local colleges to apply for SAME college scholarships. Brad was the Master of Ceremonies at a lively and well-attended event where scholarships were awarded to the students. Brad also participated in many activities with SAMEOC Student Chapter at Saddleback College, and the SAME summer camp for high school students who are pursuing college education in STEM.”

Comment from Ken Casimiro, Software Engineer, Northrup Grumman, SAME Scholarship winner,

“Brad has been a strong advocate and collaborator for me and other students at Saddleback college. He was a member of the SAME Orange County Post of the Society American Military Engineers who went out of his way to make me and several other scholarship winners feel like valued members of the society during the SAME scholarship award ceremony. He has also made a point to maintain contact with me as I advance my career.”

ASCE

He has held positions on the Board of Directors of the Orange County Branch of ASCE (Chair of the Professional Practice Committee) and the Los Angeles Section (Chair of the Membership Committee).

Personal Communications with ASCE leaders

Brad,

Thank you so much for taking time out of your day to attend our End of the Year Banquet for our ASCE Student Chapter at UCLA! We hope that you enjoyed the recap of all our chapter’s accomplishments throughout the year.

I would also like to endorse you for being on the ASCE Region 9 Board of Governors. Your passion for introducing engineering to young students was showcased by your involvement in the LA-YMF Popsicle Stick Bridge Competition and UCLA Seismic Outreach. The enthusiasm that you exhibited as an industry judge for the final day competition for UCLA Seismic Outreach made the entire program a more enjoyable experience for our middle school students. I believe that you would be a great asset to the ASCE Region 9 Board of Directors.

Best,

Brad,

Once more, thank you for having us at this event. All the kid’s questions were fantastic,  and I had a great time helping out. In addition, working with your son was quite entertaining. I’m pretty sure he will follow in his dad’s footsteps and make a great engineering consultant one day…Keep up the good work and I look forward to working with you in the near future.
