Inspection & Monitoring:

  • Conduct inspections of roads, bridges, culverts, and sidewalks to identify maintenance needs (cracks, drainage issues).
  • Monitor construction projects to ensure compliance with plans, specifications, and safety regulations.
  • Inspect materials used in construction, such as asphalt or concrete, for quality.

Documentation & Reporting:

  • Prepare daily reports on field activities, project progress, and material usage.
  • Maintain records of inspections, repairs, and infrastructure conditions.

Safety & Compliance:

  • Ensure contractors follow safety protocols, including proper traffic control signage.
  • Identify potential hazards to the public, such as damaged guardrails.
  • Recommend or issue permits for road openings.

Project Coordination & Communication:

  • Act as a liaison between government agencies and contractors.
  • Investigate public complaints regarding road conditions and recommend solutions.

 inspects permitted activities in the public and flood control district rights of way to ensure compliance with the permit and approved plans; inspects permitted activities to ensure proper restoration of existing improvements; interprets engineered construction plans; reports variances and documents inspections; responds to inquiries and complaints from the public; performs continuous inspection on one or more projects; identifies, reports, resolves minor issues impacting assigned project; ensures approved materials are received and correctly implanted within the project; coordinates testing of materials when necessary; performs calculations from the plans verifying locations, grades and depth of utilities within the project; identifies non-compliant work and takes appropriate action to bring back into compliance; ensures all changes and/or modifications are noted on the final plans; has general knowledge of code requirements; makes photographic documentation of the progression of the assigned project; has basic understanding and use of computers including programs such as Word, Excel and Outlook; documents and maintains thorough, accurate and informative daily, weekly, monthly and final reports; maintains dialog, coordination and communication with other departments, external agencies and the public; understands CALOSHA worksite safety requirements; uses department equipment and safety attire in accordance to all rules and regulations; thoroughly reviews plans and specifications and reports any discrepancies to supervisor; immediately reports critical issues and/or possible delays to supervisor; ensures any required permits have been obtained and are being followed; completes monthly payment report and submits change order requests when warranted; attends all safety meetings and assigned training classes; and drives to and from assigned projects and complies with all departmental driving policies.

 

provides oversight of contractor’s forces on time and material extra work change orders, estimates quantities of extra work and verifies lump sum price quotations for fairness and accuracy; measures for payment all work under each bid item and reviews, processes, and recommends payments for work in place; and interprets contract documents and resolves disputes or uncertainties with the contractor.

 

….also coordinates inspections and related activities with contractors, utility personnel, consultants and various City staff; Coordinates physical testing of construction materials (e.g., asphalt, concrete, aggregate, soil, plastic, plaster, etc.) to ensure compliance with specific standards; and prepares various status, analytical and technical reports and correspondence.

 

  • Represent the Client’s interests at all times.
  • Assist with field public relations.
  • Monitor the compliance with the project contract, specifications, approved traffic control plans or Watch Manual (MUTCD). National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), OSHA / Contractor’s Safety Plan requirements, quality assurance.
  • Coordinate 3rd party special / deputy inspections & materials testing; address unsatisfactory inspection & /or test results through satisfactory resolution.
  • Conduct contractor/subcontractor employee interviews for confirmation of proper payment of wages (assist with labor compliance).
  • Assist the construction managers in monitoring & documenting the contractor’s adherence to the approved construction schedule.
  • Be present on the job site when construction is in progress & when inspection is required.
  • Prepare daily inspection reports (Daily Activity Report, Weekly Statement of Working Days, etc.), as required.
  • Measure & verify the project pay item quantities, in-place. Confirm pay item quantities with the contractor prior to submission of invoice for payment.
  • Develop punch list items & monitor satisfactory completion.
  • Support one to several simultaneous projects.
